Practical and scientific reviewed journal "Statistics and Economics" was founded in 2004 and established the Training and methodical association of universities for education in the field of Applied Computer Science, Statistics, Mathematical Methods in Economics and crisis management on the basis of the Moscow State University of Economics, Statistics and Informatics (MESI).

From 2004 to 2016 the journal called "Economics, Statistics and Informatics. Vestnik UMO", which along with the scientific articles published important decisions of the Ministry of Education, Educational and methodical association (UMO) and is the only Russian journal, coming out under the auspices of UMO.

The first three years scientific reports of scientific and pedagogical workers were published in the journal in free format.

In 2006, by the decision of the extended council of UMO the journal was officially registered and began to be published in the new format.

Over time, the bulk of the items in the Journal were studies in statistics and economics.

In 2016, by the decision of the new founder (Plekhanov Russian University of

Economics) and due the abolition of UMO as a public and state association of universities, it was decided to reform the journal and to focus on the publication of research related to the statistical analysis of the economic, social and demographic phenomena and processes.

Since the 5th issue in 2016 the journal acquired a new title "Statistics and Economics"

Doctorate of economic sciences, Professor Vitaliy G. Minashkin became chief editor of the journal.

The editorial board consists of both domestic and foreign scientists conducting research in the field of statistics and economics.

The journal is registered by the Federal Service for Supervision of Communications, Information Technology and Mass Media (certificate of registration of mass media ПИ №ФС77-65889 от 27.05.16 г.).

The journal «Statistics and Economics» is involved in the List of the Russian periodical and research issues, in which the publication of PhD (candidate and doctoral degrees) works are recommended (VAK).
